Sources close to the Internet giant's former CEO say Meg Whitman plans to make a formal announcement soon that she is seeking to become the GOP's nominee to replace termed-out Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011.

In an open letter to investors and consumers on Monday, the Apple chief executive added the latest chapter to the saga about his health. He wrote that he had a hormone imbalance that is 'robbing' his body of proteins, causing him to drastically lose weight and triggering deep concern about his condition in recent months.
